What NOT To Do Before Your Custom Spray Tan

on

A custom spray tan is one of the fastest ways to achieve a beautiful, sunn-kissed glow but proper preparation makes all the difference. Certain appointments, activities and skin conditions can interfere with your results, leading to uneven color, streaking or a shorter-lasting tan.

Here are the most common mistakes to avoid before your spray tan appointment.

1. Don't Go to the Gym Before Your Appointment

If you're planning to workout, do it before your spray tan to save it for after your tan has developed. Sweat can prevent the tanning solution from adhering evenly to the skin, while friction from clothing and equipment can cause streaking or patchiness.

For the best results, arrive with clean, dry skin and avoid excessive sweating immediately before and after your appointment.

2. Don't Schedule a Facial Before Your Spray Tan

Facials often include exfoliation, enzymes and acids that remove dead skin cells. While this is great for your skin, it can negatively affect a fresh spray tan.

To prevent uneven fading or discoloration, schedule your facial before your spray tan or ideally several days afterward.

3. Don't Get Your Nails Done After Your Spray Tan

Manicures ad pedicures involve soaking, scrubbing, lotions and acetone. All of which can be remove fresh tanning solution around the hands and feet.

For the most even results, schedule nail appointments at least 24 hours before your spray tan.

4. Don't Get Sprayed If You're Sunburned

A spray tan should never be applied over damaged, peeling or severely irritated skin. Sunburned skin sheds unevenly and can cause your tan to appear blotchy or patchy.

Wait until your skin has bully healed before booking your appointment.

5. Don't Schedule Your Spray Tan Before a Hair Appointment

Hair appointments often involve shampooing, rinsing, coloring and styling products that can interfere with your tan. Water running over freshly sprayed skin may create uneven development.

Complete your hair services before your spray tan appointment.

6. Don't Plan a Long Car Ride Immediately After

Fresh spray tans need time to develop. Sitting for long periods can create friction in areas where clothing, seat belts or skin folds repeatedly rub against the body.

If you have a lengthy drive planned, try to schedule your tan so it is fully developed before you leave.

7. Don't Wax After Your Spray Tan

Waxing removes skin cells and your tan right along with them. To avoid patchiness, schedule waxing appointments at least 24-48 hours before your spray tan.
